Virginia 'Gin' A. (Wigley) Jackson

Virginia A. “Gin” (Wigley) Jackson, 76, a longtime resident of Avon, died Saturday, April 6, 2024 after a brave 2 year battle with lung cancer. Born in Littleton, NH, she was the daughter of the late Arthur J. & Mary E. (Coleman) Wigley, and the beloved wife for almost 50 years to Albert Jackson.

Gin spent her early childhood years in South Boston before the family settled in Randolph. She attended Tower Hill School, and completed her education as a graduate of Randolph High School. Over the years she worked several jobs, starting with Grants, Randy Sneaker Factory, and Hollywell Nursing Home. After taking a position with Norwood Hospital, she earned her certificate at Laboure College in nutrition, working in that department for 25 years until her retirement.

It was 60 years ago at the age of 16, that Gin met the love of her life, Al Jackson at an art class for people with cerebral palsy at the Furnace Brook School in Quincy. Their strong Catholic faith, love of family, and car rides would fill their lives together over the years. They bought a house in Avon and made it their home for almost 50 years. With nothing but a road atlas, they traveled to over 30 states and Canada with no reservations, just pilot and co pilot enjoying the scenery and each other’s company.

Gin loved nothing more than spending time with her large extended family. Along with her husband Al, she is survived by her siblings, Lorraine Scolponeti & her husband Joseph of West Roxbury, Denise Paskell & her husband Cliff of East Bridgewater, and Charles Wigley of Brockton, her sisters in law, Anne Claise & her husband Robert of Princeton, and Jan Esancy of Pembroke, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

Besides her parents, Gin was predeceased by her sister, Arlene Esancy, her brother in law, Richard Esancy, and her niece, Justine West.

Family and friends will honor and remember Gin’s life by gathering for a time of visitation in the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 S. Main St. Randolph on Tuesday morning, April 16th from 9-10:30AM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Michael Church, 87 N. Main St. Avon, at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Avon.
