David W. Cassidy

David W. Cassidy Sr., age 90, of Bridgton, ME, died unexpectedly and peacefully on October 18, 2021 at Bridgton Hospital, Bridgton ME while surrounded by family. Son of the late Robert F. Cassidy and Genevieve Gower Cassidy. David was born in Boston and grew up in Braintree MA graduating with the class of 1949.

David is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elinor McGaughey Cassidy of Bridgton ME; his children David W. Jr. (Kathleen) of Westford MA, Dennis J. (Cynthia) of Naples ME, Thomas M. (Karen) of Albany Township ME, James F. (Susan) of S. Weymouth MA, Peter R. (Juanita) of Phillipston MA, and Maureen Cassidy Walther (Brien) of Jackson Township NJ. He is survived by his grandchildren; Lauren Cassidy of Amherst MA, Katie Cassidy Davis (Adam) of Windham ME, Kevin Cassidy of NY NY, Emily Cassidy of Casco ME, James Cassidy (Nichole) of Hingham MA, Colleen Cassidy of Abington MA, Patrick Walther of Jackson Twp NJ, and predeceased by Sarah Walther of Jackson Twp NJ. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Grace and Joan Davis, and Nora Cassidy

After high school, David joined the Navy and served on the USS Block Island during the Korean Conflict. Following his service in the Navy, he worked as a grocery manager for many years and later was co-owner of Townhouse News in Yarmouth MA. In 1955 he married Elinor McGaughey at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Holbrook MA. David was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Holbrook Historical Society, and a member of the Amalgamated Union.

David’s true loves were his family and church. While his children grew up, he enjoyed coaching little league baseball and vacation time at Nason’s Beach in Sebago ME for 54 years.

Funeral from the Hurley Currie Funeral Home, 127 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37), Holbrook on Saturday, October 23rd at 10:45am followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph Church in Holbrook at 11:30am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held Friday, October 22nd from 4-7pm. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Randolph. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory can be made to Give Kids the World Village, 210 S. Bass Rd., Kissimmee FL 34746. The family asks that we remain safe by following recommended wearing of face masks.
