Scott E. Griffin

Scott Edward Griffin, beyond a shadow of doubt, was one of the strongest and most considerate people we have ever known. Sadly, we lost this great man far too soon on Monday, August 23rd 2021. Born in 1967 to Carolyn and William Griffin, Scott was raised in Randolph, MA and left home for Boston after graduating Randolph High as a member of the class of 1985.

As a young man with little to his name, Scott began his journey from home by becoming a barback/doorman for the ever-infamous bar, Daisy Buchanan’s. Scott dedicated himself to whatever he was a part of and soon would become one of Daisy’s finest. One of his most famous concoctions was a Jack and Ginger. What was the magic behind it? “A lot of Jack and a splash of ginger.”

During his Daisy days, he met his wife, Denise, and they would bring their son, Derik, into the world. Scott and Denise dedicated themselves to parenting. And it shows in the man that Derik has become. With Scott’s passing, Denise lovingly recognizes Scott as a wonderful life partner and the best father a child could ever have.

After his prime years in the bar business were over, Scott worked for Wellesley College in the early morning until evening, attended classes at Phoenix University, and finally would go to work at the bar, all while he had a child he was caring for. Later in his life, Scott would leave Wellesley College and soon become the Quality Assurance Manager at Melville Candy in Randolph, MA. Through his hard work and dedication, Scott would be asked to become the CEO of the company, which he accepted. Soon after becoming the CEO, Melville began to work with big companies like Disney, Universal Studios, and Walmart. His success stemmed from not only the people he worked with, but also his own abilities as a leader. Scott had a certain air about him that made such a humble man somehow feel larger than life. His presence commanded respect, but rarely in an aggressive way, he would light up a room in an instant and was a person that others looked for. Scott’s impact on his family and those around him was massive and no words will ever truly be able to describe what just his smile could do. Always calm and caring, Scott lived his life to the fullest and imparted his experience to others, not through words alone, but through the way he carried himself.

His extended family was another of Scott’s sweet spots. Hanging out at his younger brother and sister-in-law’s pool…hoisting a few with his sister and brother-in-law at Lewis’…smoking a fine stogie and sipping an equally fine bourbon with his older brother. He was the greatest uncle to his nieces and nephews, and they relied on him for everything. No matter what the problem, Scott could always solve it. The fact that he was a Frye-boot-wearing Deadhead only enhanced his magic. Scott’s kindness and compassion were lifelong, which he shared with his hundreds of friends. If you knew Scott, you were blessed and were a better person for it.
Scott leaves behind his wife, Denise and son, Derik. Beyond his immediate family he leaves his older brother, Bill, his wife, Sue, his older sister Kathy, her husband, Mike, his younger brother Sean and his wife, Sandra, and his brother-in-law, David DeMartini. In addition, he leaves his mother-in-law Mary Jane Marmo, his father-in-law, Howard DeMartini and his wife, Helen. He also leaves his many nieces and nephews. Brendan and his wife Ashley, Erin, and Ryan Crowley, Liam and Michaela Griffin, Aria Gately, and Jack and Caitlin Corrigan as well as his many cousins. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Bill and Carol Griffin, his cousin, Kevin Corrigan, and his step-father-in-law, Joseph Marmo.

Scott’s impact on these lives is truly immeasurable and his reach extends far past just his family. Each person that was a part of Scott’s life all share one thing in common. We are all heavily impacted by his memory. Scott would never want us to grieve for him. He was and still is too strong, he was the glue and motor for his family and friends. Scott, we wish you could see how much we all miss you and how much we need you; you always kept us strong and aware while reminding us that even if today is hard there is always another day. Dad, I love you beyond words and miss you like crazy. Thank you for everything.

Visiting hours are Monday, August 30th, 2021, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home, 134 S. Main Street, Randolph, MA. Thank you so much for your attendance, it is greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations in Scott's memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.

Scott was always being patience and respectful when talking to anyone of us in Melville family. I seldom felt any communication barrier between him and the production team even though most people there didn't speak English as their first language. He was a great and responsible leader who take care of us in Melville at all time. I missed him so much ...He will live in our memory forever

If someone wear to ask me who Scott Griffin was I would answer a big and beautiful person. A man with a large heart. A listener who always had time. A fighter who will take on any challenge and always come out a winner. He treated everyone he came across with kindness and respect. He was a leader and a builder he took Melville candy to where it is today. Scott you will never leave my heart and never be forgotten I love you

I worked with Scott at Wellesley College for years. He was the most thoughtful, kind and nicest person I have ever met He cared so much for all the people that worked under his leadership. He treated everyone fairly and with the utmost respect. He was loved by the entire Wellesley College community. It is hard to imagine that I’ll ever meet another person as nice as Scott Griffin in my lifetime. RIP my friend

Denise, Derik,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Scott was really a good guy. During all those years of school at St. Catherine's we had some good laughs and a nice friendship that extended outside of just school. He will be sorely missed but he won't be forgotten any time soon.

The first time I met Scotty was in Daisy Buchanan’s. To anyone who met Scotty the first thing you would notice was his wonderful disarming and infectious smile. He was hard working and unpretentious. He was kind to everyone he met. He was a true friend and I’m sure husband, father and brother. I will miss him dearly. The world was a better place while he was in it.

First, my deep condolences to Scott's wife Denise, son Derik and your entire family.
I met Scotty while he was working as a bartender at Daisy's Buchanan's and I started hanging around with him and his friends/co workers at Daisy's.
We would work our way over to Dad's, Whiskey's, the Pour House etc. In those days Marathon Monday was the 4th of July, Christmas and New Years Eve rolled into one!
Scotty was the person you just instantly took a liking too. Even though I had not seen Scotty in years, I have and always will consider him a good friend. God bless and rest in peace buddy.

I have worked with and for Scott at Melville for a long time. Over the years we have had many conversations about our kids and parenting. Any time I asked about Derik he would light up and get this big smile and tell me what he was up to and how proud he is of him. He would have been so proud to see how he carried himself today. Scott was a man who understood the importance of family. He made it very easy for me to be a single parent and keep a full time job and never made me feel like I would be in trouble if I needed to take a day off when my son needed me. He would often remind me to take the time off and not feel bad about it and enjoy the time with my son. I can't even put into words how much that has meant to me over the years. He was such a kind and caring person. He will truly be missed.

I was so sorry to hear about Scott. I knew him from Daisy’s when I would go up to visit with my friend Mary. I remember how his eyes sparkled and his smile was so bright. And I can still hear his voice in my head. Such a sad loss. Keeping Scotty and all of his loved ones in my thoughts and prayers.
